Meet KB and Kwanza

Chat ‘N’ Chill® owners Kenneth “KB” and Kwanza (formerly Clay) Bowe, are the ChillologistsTM at the heart of it all. If you think running a beach bar in The Bahamas sounds amazing, just wait until you read the rest of the story.

KB was born and raised on Exuma, and he can trace his lineage on the island all the way back to 1765, when his family were merchants with large land holdings.

You can take the boy off the island, but you can’t take the island out of the boy.

Back when bell bottoms were cool, Kenneth “KB” Bowe walked off the University of Chicago graduation stage with his MBA and straight into the cutthroat world of corporate finance. Eventually though, he got sick of that high-stress, high-rise and pavement lifestyle, and hungered to return to his island roots.

Working with tourists in the hotel business, KB realized that what visitors want is the charm of the old Bahamas. His desire to return to a simple island life echoed that, as well. He knew he could create both – and Chat ‘N’ Chill® was born.

Pigs, planes and a proposal

Kwanza grew up in the U.S. and graduated cum laude from Spelman College in 1992 with a degree in Economics. Frequent moves with her family inspired her love for travel and this is how she developed her gift to talk to anyone about anything!

Kwanza met KB when he strolled into her family owned travel agency to buy a plane ticket. He needed to get to Iowa to buy a custom pig roaster. (Shouldn’t every great love story begin with barbeque?) KB was wearing his Chat ‘N’ Chill® shirt, Kwanza was intrigued by his accent, and they struck up a conversation.

Three years of love letters later – “He was quite the proper gentleman,” Kwanza said. “It was definitely a sweet kind of old fashioned wooing going on!” – KB proposed, and the rest is history.

A new business blossoms

When KB proposed, Kwanza knew there was no place she’d rather get married than on his private beach on Stocking Island. She planned everything herself, and little hints of what would become A Wedding Breeze started whispering in her mind. Those ideas became an exclusive, award-winning Exuma wedding planning service!

That was nearly 20 years and two children ago, and the love story of KB and Kwanza, as well as Chat ‘N’ Chill® and A Wedding Breeze, are still going strong.

A Unique, Chill Experience

quotationreview-ratingWe always have a great time at Chat N Chill, its just fun hanging out there and is a great spot for photographs. We rented a boat from Minns to get there but the water taxis are an easy and fairly inexpensive way to get there too.

quotationreview-ratingThere are just some places that you visit and say "wow, what a cool place!" That was my experience. We had burgers for lunch which were fine, but the atmosphere was incredible. A classic Caribbean beach bar...

quotationreview-ratingWe stopped at the Chat 'N' Chill on our Stocking Island trip. I tried the conch for the first time and I really liked it. The bar was full as expected but the beach was nice and people were having a great time. Feeding the stingrays was cool and I enjoyed our stop.
